Online Recruitment

Hey it's been a while since I've write my blog....Been busy working + Shopping + Meeting up friends + Mahjonging (opps bad habit kicks in..)

Anyway...was just browsing through the web and reading my Google Reader....not been in touch with Web 2.0 recently, so gotta catch up with what's happening around though..haha!...ok back to where we stopped, I was saying, was just browsing through the web and reading my Google Reader and I was quite impressed that people actually really used and been tested effective...to use Social Media tool to do Online Recruitment! Hey..and the success rate is as high as or even better than friend's referral value....which is more promising than recruitment firm!

Trust me...it's really an eye-opener and what's even better is that people around the world tried using different type of social media tools to do that...not just from the usual company websites or search executive database but even blogs, youtube, Twitter Facebook & even Wiki....

Facebook - From my Facebook, I typed in "Recruitment" in my search box under Groups and more than 3 pages full of results are found easily... so..I just got 2 which I think is quite interesting....

1. Recruitment in Hospitality Industry...a lot of their job posting is based in UAE...

2. Recruitment in Media Industry...all kind of media related job posting here...check out if you don't want to miss a chance in this industry!

Twitter - if you still don't know what is Twitter...then you are missing out all the fun and not Web + Tech Savvy enough! Now even a renown shoe company Zappos is heavily using it for recruitment....

Wiki - At first everyone only knows WikiPedia...now...even corporate use Wiki for internal communication...just go to http://www.wetpaint.com and type in "recruitment" in the search engine and Wala! Lots of recruitment wikis pops up! Enjoy....

After researching a bit... it seems to me that this trend is kicking into the recruitment industry so I tried to search for Asia or even just locally, Singapore....but guess what...

Although Singapore is a small country with all the high-tech infrastructure and promising talents but we are still very slow and conservative when trying to apply a new edge media or technology into our very own society

....what a controversial I must say....

So, I am thinking..let's say... I am a company trying to use Social Media or what we called Web 2.0 to do an Online Recruitment and you are at the same time looking for a job which I have to offer...which method do you think you will like best/choose or will first let you take note of this opportunity???

1. Company Website

2. Company Blog

2. Twitter

3. Wiki

4. Youtube

5. Facebook

Leave me a comment...I really will like to know what's your opinion on it especially in Singapore haha....

Work Culture

Recently, after working as an intern in an office setting with a sales and business development role to play in there... I started to get a hang of the stress and pressure piling up....

And this kind of stress gets worst when working culture difference kicks in...

Person A prefer to use "I say you follow" working style while
Person B prefer to use "Make me understand the fundamentals before asking me to do something" working style

This is what happened to me when I just simply can't adapt to the working culture of my superior. I mean we trashed out the differences in honesty and both understand how different our working culture is like...as such...we have decided to part way....

With that... I think through for a bit... how this kind of problem which seems no definite answer can be solved???

So, I decided to use the most popular method to look for answer... Google Search Engine + Youtube Video...and guess what? I found a lot of interesting videos.... Take a look:

(Sorry I don't have the time to rip the videos and upload it...I'll try to upload it soon,
in the meantime, click on the links provided to view them)

This video sounds out the importance of creating a good working culture:
This video is hilarious...it extravagant the strict and rigid working culture:
This video acts as a wake-up call for those employers/superiors who still don't recognise the true value an employees play in an organization:
This video is a cheesy MV as a "Good Company Motivational Training Video"...sounds interesting
After watching these videos.... what's your take? Are you facing difficulties to integrate into a different working culture before? If yes, how you solve this???

The Hot New 2008 Short Hairstyle

Been really tied down with internship and pool commitment lately that I've not been blogging in a while...Think I've been losing touch with Web 2.0 lately, which I've been missing alot... gotta catch up with whatever been around soon.
Yesterday evening, out of a spur moment, I decided to get my hair cut.... and guess what? I've cutted the shortest haircut I've ever had.

I wasn't too sure what caused this action but I think maybe I am just too stressed up with my internship workload and tired of looking the way I usually am....so shagged and old and nothing changes even you saw me 3 years ago that kinda look....
And...so this is it! My new hairstyle!!!

Rihanna's super short pixy style that can be fun and spunky or classy and elegant.

Katie Holmes' Shorter Short Hairstyle that is stylish and chic

A blend of Rihanna's super short pixy style plus Katie Holmes' shorter short cut! That's what I have styled for this summer's new look!

One of the other celebrities that had this hairstyle is....

Posh is another worldwide fashion icon that has been sporting and updated version of the bob: the pob (Posh + bob = pob!). She has longer sleek hair in the front that angles while becoming shorter and layered in the back.

This bob + bangs Hairstyle is most definitely the sexiest short hairstyle out there for this summer.

So...will you have the courage to cut your long and flowy hair as bob-short as mine ????

Growing Big On Pool

Last few weeks ago, I received an sms from my coach, Ricky Chew, whether I wanted to join in a new squad for set up by Cue Sport Singapore - National Ladies Development Squad for Pool.

So, after weighing out the level of commitments and passion, I decided to join this newly formed squad. And so yesterday... there I was at the first training session.

Initially, I am afraid that it's going to be a very strict training which was conducted by the National Coach - Coach Chen who is a Taiwanese... As I always see him with very serious look on his face. But after the 1st session @ Klassic, I found out that he's actually a very fatherly figure. A coach that I think most people will love and respect...I think I will learn a lot from him!

Although the training was fun as I got to meet up with the rest of 14 selected girls and we had a wonderful time especially everyone was so friendly, I also noticed there were still varying differences in terms of skill and knowledge between most of us....although I admitted that all of us are considered pretty good among female players...

For me, I really look forward to going for training as I know I can improve, grow and learn alot from this squad as well as Coach Chen... but of course... I will always remember my initial coach Ricky...since it's with his encouragement and teaching that aspired me so that I can enter this squad...

I hope my aspiration for pool as a in-door sport will never cool off... so, do you like me, have something like a sport or hobby that keeps on inspiring you in life to brighten up your plain sailing life journey too???

Headhunting Internship @ SearchAsia

It's been quite some times since I last blogged... down with rushing Social Media WIki project lately!

Straight after a hectic summer term in May... initially I thought I had at least a few days to rest and play to my fill but sadly... been rushing and trying to wrap up my Social Media course's wiki on China's Reactions Towards Olympic Protest...

And now, you may say... "You can start relaxing now right?" Seriously.. I hope so too but I've signed an internship contract with SearchAsia way before May and with contractual agreement..of course if I go MIA for a while... and yes... I will have to compensated for at least a month's salary... so...what to do??!! I just take my tiring body and almost pops out after staring at the laptop for more than 16hours a day's eyes...UNWILLING to work today...ya I started my internship TODAY!!!

At first I thought I will be damn bored working there since I'm working in a headhunting firm and posted to an industry which I am not as keen (Oil, Gasl & Petroleum), but to my surprise... I found the scope of this job very interesting and it just makes me want to learn more and see how I can progress from there...hmmm.. So it's not so bad after all..

Although I have a lot of stuffs to learn but hmm... I quite like this position >>> Associate Consultant = Helping to select right candidates to fulfill a job opening in the industry.. There's just so much to learn and so much to explore.... and the best part of it all is... It Performance Driven... so the more job openings that i helped the client to fulfill...the more incentive I got and so.. I think that's what motivates me the most... :)

Anyway.. I think I should pen off.. going out for my dinner now...

Oh by the way... if you are interested in getting a job in Oil, Gas & Petroleum industry or as a headhunting consultant?? I can try to liaise.. just drop me a comment and I'll get back to you!!

Home Made Videos

I was in bed and going to have a good night's sleep after been battled a long 44hrs war from school.... and then my lovely girlfriend, Celine, called me and said she never received my Assignment which was due today @ 5pm... BTW she's that course's teaching assistant....but I remembered that I've emailed it to her earlier...

So, I opened my laptop & went online to check...and guess what? Then I realised I've stupidly sent to the wrong person...%*&%$##*&.. No wonder... I think I'm just too tired from a long 44hrs of sleepless night...and now after sending out my assignment to Celine...PLUS my laptop is online.....ok... I admitted... I am addicted to my blog.. and with the intention to just come in to take a look at the traffic, twittering abit... and be a good girl and go back for my beauty sleep...Full stop and end of story..

BUT, now I felt I should take credit by showing off the video that I've made which I've been sacrificing my 44hrs of sleep...

So, here it is...

I know it's a bit controversial for discussing Death & Funeral Rites for Intercultural Communication Across Singapore... and yes... I chosen the topic myself... but look at it another way, after me and my project mates have completed our group's presentation...we have gained a better understanding of death in Singapore across the major religions and with that...we have become more cultural sensitive towards other religions!

Oh also, here's another video that me and my other course's (Social Media & Corporate Communication) project mates are very proud off... and I also want to show off a bit on it.. haa! It's a video on what we have learnt about social media...

I know this video's quality is not as good as the first one...but hey this is what we have done within 1.5 hours of timespan...and with such limited timing...I am proud to say this is quite a good quality indeed (self-praising is good for boosting confidence...haha)

Ok...but I really got to get my beauty sleep... I've to got be in a good state by gettin a good rest now.. cos I've to wake up 9am tomorrow...got a Singapore University Games (SUniG) 8-ball Pool Selection for Competitve Players to present school to go for the competition which I really hope to get in... since I'm in my uni last year & this is my last time to join SUniG.. Wish me luck okie?

Good night...zzzZZZZZ

Natural Disaster Irregular Phenomena

I just read the cover of 1 of Singapore's local daily news Shin Min Daily News and it covered on the irregular sights of thousands of insects such as crickets and toads migrating which occurred before the 7.9 huge magnitude of Sichuan Earthquake hit China once again had been observed. And from the news report, it stated that such irregular movement of the insects could mean there maybe another 8.0 magnitude Earthquake hitting Sichuan and the surrounding area again.
It seems like animals have some sort of
instincts
to predict the danger or the change of movement in the
environment that is approaching that area
.
Also, I've watched Animal Planet sometimes ago and noticed this change of behaviour in animals or insects when it talks about Tsunami and how few animals were lost even though thousands of lives were lost. (Read more on Channel Canada )

Phenomenal Animal Migration in Sudan Stuns Experts

Even without observing animals, huge earthquakes like the one in Sichuan can also be predicted from the weather pattern in that area. I went to Global Voice Online and found an article which talks about How the Sichuan Earthquake can be prevented? and being a bit skeptical about this topic... I went to made a Google search online on it and true to what has been written on Global Voice Online, several experts have also spell out the possibility of predicting a huge magnitude Earthquake based on the length and intensity of the drought in that region. In addition, many such as ibiblio stated the possibility of tsunami after huge magnitude Earthquake occurences.

So, my take: Mother Nature still has its way of showing kindness to us, Earthlings, in the time (before) of disasters but ultimately, it's still up to us if we want to reciprocate her kindness before its too late!

So, what is your take then?

Snacking

I LOVE Sunday...
To me, Sundays as the BEST days to snack and laze around doing
nothing
....
***But of course, today I am STILL rushing on my project...no spare time when I have a 40% grade weightage Term Test coming round this coming wed...***
Anyway...talking about Snacking on a lovely Sunday... I am titled Snack Queen and I'm pretty sure my friends or people who knew me won't reject this claim.... while I am thinking of what to snack in my cupboard today, I suddenly decided to show you what I have inside it!
Chipster is one of the chips that I like best! Especially the Sour Cream ones...

Bought this puffs @ Marks & Spencer during sales 2 days back & guess what? I love it so much that I can eat the whole box at 1 go... This I promise!
Campbell soup! I especially LOVED Tomato, Oxtail & Roasted Garlic with Mushroom.. You must try it too!
This croutons is a must to go along with my Campbell soup...oh do I also mention that it goes fab with Salad too?!
This is one of my fav Jelly Pudding few years back when Marigold first intro it.. but it taste as good as before!
This is it...I am going to pig over it NOW!
Know why I LOVED this pudding so much? See it...it's got REAL fruit in it... makes you look NOT so sinful..hah!

Not much actually right?...As for drinks, I don't usually go for carbonated drinks but this... let me tell you...IT'S THE BEST LEMONADE I EVER HAD!!! True to my heart..I swear by god... I've left some in my fridge so I've taken some pics to show you...take a look!

It's called Waitrose Lemonade... and it's not like any lemonade I've tasted before... because its a bit carbonated some small fizzy bubbles not like Coke or Sprite which has large fizzy bubble...which actually make it so good especially on Sunny Hot Afternoon when you can even sweat right after bathing!

And guess what? I am enjoying my cooling iced lemonade now...what's your favourite???

Corporate Social Responsibility

I just saw a re-cap of yesterday's broadcasted news on TV and majority was reporting on the Deadly Cyclone that hitted Mynamar Yangon and the Cruelty Earthquake that shook China Sichuan so suddenly and badly that hundreds of thousands of people are dying and the dead number will still be increasing. And it really make my heart ache whenever I saw more people died and children left homeless and become orphan over one night, who they are just like ordinary people like you and me.

Yangon, Myanmar - Deadly Cyclone that caused more than thousand deads

It seems to me that these 2 heartbreaking news is a wake-up call from Mother Earth to urge everyone in this world to stop fighting, stop all the terrorist "shit" (pardon me) & stop talking about individual religion, politic & selfish benefits and just get united as one world and help out those who are desperately in priority need NOW!

Sichuan, China - epicenter for recent huge Earthquake

When my aching heart is just pounding stronger for these needy suffers, then my curiousity creeps onto my mind when the news flashed more and more businesses such as local bakery chain, Breadtalk tried to raise fund for these 2 disasterous areas by coming up with new "Panda" themed bread to sell out to consumers and use the profit earned to donate. Then it suddenly struck to me that maybe...just may some companies tried to show their HUGE Corporate Social Responsiblity (CSR) through this kind of act...and seriously I am very skeptical if these companies are really trying to help here...

Panda - a symbol of China's protected animal

Don't get me wrong, I mean it's good if these companies are really to help but back of my mind, I think otherwise... I felt they maybe trying to use this opportunity to create awareness & even profits for their own brand or products! Although it seems to be a win-win situation for both the companies as well as for the countries that needed helped but in my opinion, if someone or some companies are really out there to just help, then I don't think there's even a need to sell their products in order just to raise or donate fund which basically is through the consumers' money...

Anyway, maybe I am just too skeptical but that's just my own point of view. I mean there's still good organizations out there like the Red Cross or Myanmar Cyclone that is fully concentrated on just collecting public's funding and donation and remit & send over to China and Myanmar. So don;t get me wrong...but do you feel like I feel especially towards companies which just use CSR which may conflict with profit like Breadtalk for instance?

Western Media Impact on China Olympic & its growth

Recently, I've been research on one of my project on China's Reaction Towards Olympic Protest and after been going through news coverage and blogs on this issue, I've found out how social media has impacted the way we view information.
Traditionally, if you are to ask me to follow up on a current issue such as the Olympic Protest, that been debating around, I will probably feel that news articles and reports are the best way to get the "real" info. But after getting info not only from the usual news channel, but blogs and other online social media, I have deferred views.

From http://www.anti-cnn.com/, I found out how "distorted and biased" news coverage can be. It also provide us "truth" to a certain extents that tried to bring out the justice of such irresponsible news coverage by reputable channel such as US cable news network like CNN & BBC.

Extracted from http://www.anti-cnn.com/. For full content and coverage, go to http://www.anti-cnn.com/.

I think part of the root of these problematic news coverage can provide, are boiled down from the misperception of these previously reliable sources (such as CNN) has on the whole issue, which in return, articulate "biased" and even "distortion" views by the way they projected the issue to the public. These, as a result, caused huge resentment especially in the Chinese community as like most citizens, everyone still have a sense of pride about their own countries.

As such, there's 1 clear question that we should take away from the Olympic protest, that is, how reliable are news coverage? Are there people out there still blindly following these news as the "truth to light" or there might be something that we still do not know or have not been told to us?

So, what's your take? For me, it really changes the way I collect "true" info from news coverage...

Food Allergy!!!

Oh my god.... been sleeping since last night after dinner till now....Guess my food allergy + the jab + medicines had caused me too drowsy to wake up!

Oh yes...I'm having Food Allergy... Main cause?! I'm not too sure, think it must be the Mini Abalone that I had last night's dinner... yes yes yesh! I'm allergy to seafood...I mean not all seafood but just some shelled types like Scallop & Escargot!!

Yes,I'm missing out all the good food delicacy but what can i do??!! It's not up to be to decide (I think my body does) since till recent years that my body starts to develop resistance to these shelled food which happens to one of my favorite foods....

So what happen next? Blocked nose + asthmatic breathing + swollen eyes + itchy skins

Oh talking about swollen eyes... I took a pic of my "Panda-tic" eyes just now and let you know what I mean by I will not simply go out and show the world my "Panda-tic" eyes even you pay me a million dollars!!

As most people who knows me, you may have notice my double-eyelids are gone with these "Panda-tic" eyes...and look at how swollen my eyelids are...and guess what? I tried puttng 2 coins on top of it & it just simply won't drop off! (Amazing right?) But these isn't the worst! Last night is worse than this....because last night my eyes are so swollen that my eyes can barely open wide...and the widest that I tried to open was like a thin line...no jokes man!

Anyway, talking about allergy...someone told me before that allergy usually occurs suddenly and more frequently when one gets older, especially when you are being introduced to a totally new food that your body had not tried before or not as frequent. Till this extent I sort of believe it, because I didn't had this kind of allergy till a few years ago... It's kind of sad as some of these food that I am allergied to, are my favourites like escargots and scallops. So, each time if I am going to eat the dish of food that may contain the food that I am allergied to, I will have to asked and double confirmed if the person prepared that dish had added it. If he/she does, then I wil have to forgo that dish..

It's kind of irony right? Especially when you are attending a banquet and everyone is asking you to eat after the food been served to you and as a kind of courtesy, you should at least touch the food for a second...while someone that goes to the banquet with knows that you can't eat them due to your food allergy, asked you not to even touch the food!

Check out what I have found on Food allergy....on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lcjz7fvyOCc

So, back to food allergy.... are you allergic to any food? And do you feel like I did? If so, how does it affect you?

What A Dog's Meal!

Hey, it's been sometimes since I've wrote on my blog... sorry as my dog, Husky (the dog in the pic below is my little boy), was having diarrhoea recently!

Oh for those who didn't know, I've a dog which was adopted by me and my boyfriend 5 years ago. He was given to us by a couple who didn't knew the wife was pregnant when she bought Husky back then. After she gave birth, she simply couldn't kept Husky in the house as Husky owners may know...Siberian Husky like most medium to large dog breed shed a lot of furs.....

So, what of pity, me and my boyfriend decided to adopt him! Now, he's staying at my boyfriend;s house and happily living with his family!

Although Husky's staying with my boyfriend's family, he's actually very close to me! Not that he's not close with the family, but every time whenever he's sick, he will prefer to have me by his side to take care of him. So, recently, I went over to stay at my boyfriend's house after bringing him to the vet till he's well again.

While staying there, I found out how pampered my boyfriend's mum is to Husky! Can you all guess what did Husky always have for dinner? It's something that most dogs don't get the luxury to have it!

Yes! It's Shabu Shabu Beef Slices + Brown Rice + Carrot + Tomato....that's what Husky get to eat for dinner everyday! (For those who didn't know...Shabu Shabu Beef are beef slices that are sliced very thinly for Japanese steamboat)...

My boyfriend's mum really pampered Husky too much... not only that... in the afternoon he got lots of doggie snacks for him and as far as I know... my boyfriend's mum usually spent about $50 per 2 weeks to replenish him snacks at the pet shop....

I'm thinking..what a good life Husky is having....and come to think of that...a lot of the dogs in the world is not as fortunate as Husky... these dogs either have been abused or starved to death by irresponsible owners who view their lives inferior to a being...which I totally disagree!...I mean every being has the right to live and furthermore, dogs are so much similar to humans...they have feeling, they cry, they fall sick, they also need to be loved like us human does!

Also, most of these irresponsible owners tend to adopt these dogs only out of a folly fun/interest moment...and later felt they are a burden and starts to get irritated by them when they need to take care of them...and the story goes on...in the end...most of these poor dogs end up in other people's home or left on the streets to die on their own! Just imagine...a moment of fun/interest will cause the death of permanent damage of a life..which by no mean is inferior to human beings!

So, those prospective pet owner out there who are thinking of getting a pet dog or cat...please think twice or thrice....

pet planet: Things you need to consider before adopting a new dog.

Check out this site which .... especially prospective pet owners who are thinking of getting a pet dog or cat for yourselves or your kids....

Asian vs Westerner Perspective

Hey...it's me again! Today, after attending one of my summer term course on Social Media across Asia...it struck to me that more and more Asians have been blogging and this number is increasing gradually...as for the issues that they blog, it's mostly pertaining to personal interests like hobbies, food, etc...

But look at the westerners' blogs..a lot is on debating issues such as politics and current news!
I mean... from this blogging pattern, it seems that Asians care more about things that is personal to them, like sports or food for example while westerners care more about how they can make a different for the communities and the world as a whole...I mean that...there are still Asian people out there that cares and do blog them..but that number is seemingly small as compared to the westerners...

So, I'm thinking, are most Asians only bothered with things that only got to do with them? And I'm seriously agreeable on that... like for example...the global warming issue....it is very obvious that, this is simply a global issue.... I mean it concerns everyone since we are human and everyone lives on this mother earth... and of course, in order to survive and help our future generation to live on, it's everyone's effort to help to work on this environmental hot issue and the simplest thing to do (if everyone feels that it is their responsibility) is to help it deteroriate further by making a small change in your lifestyle...like using electrical fan than air-conditioning or save water by turning off ur tap immediately after use...
But we have seem report and watched news reporting on country that polluting the whole environment due to their heavy industrialized economy and is trying to shift the responsibility away by demanding leading countries to set as an example first...it seems like to me that these countries are looking for this kind of excuse as they are worried that by conforming to lower pollution emission will cause their whole industralized economy to slow down and they will not progress as fast as they should...

But from an environmentalist point of view, I just felt that's not right! I mean ...this is global issue...if the whole globe is to conform to these measures...then I see the pace of progress will slow down globally and the impact will be not the same as thought by these countries..

So, bringing back..me as an Asian individual...I personally will try my bit to help make this world a better place! And to kickstart..I have already help out by switching off my air-conditioning and choose to enjoy the summer breeze together with my electrical fan... So what about you?

Job Traveling...

Hey there, for those who know me...they know I'm still studying..but YES! I'm graduating end of this year...yeah!!!

At least, that's the GOOD news...but the "not so good" news is that...I understand from the recent news that Singapore is going into an economic slowdown which will be stretching into 2009..which also means... like most uni graduates...I may not be able to get a job that I really want! (**Shaking head**) What to do? To look optimistic...think I should start securing a job soon...

Oh talking about economic slowdown...I think most countries that follow US market will be hitted as or even more badly than us...at least for the BIG GIANTS...I mean the rising big countries like China and India...they may not be hitted so badly since they are currently developing into becoming a fully developed country! So I'm thinking... is China really that great? I mean not to offend..but alot of my school mates been talking about how great it is to be working in overseas and especially when China is on the way to become a full-developed country and is looking for internship there as they felt that there will be a lot of job opportunities around...**blah blah blah**

The question I'm posting is...Is traveling a part of your desired job criteria?.... I mean if given a situation which provide you 2 job opening...1st is your dream job with no traveling opportunity at all and the 2nd is an average job that allows you to travel all the time (to places you like to visit). Which one will you choose?

Thinking back...when I was younger...I mean I am still young but younger as in the teenage years like 15 to 21... my dream is to be able to get a job that allows me to travel oftenly so I am very positive that I will definitely choose the 2nd job... but now as I get more mature, I rather choose the 1st job as now I just feel that I don't really like the idea of traveling around so much. I mean I don't mind traveling but the urge to get a job that will enable me to travel is not there already!

So, I'm thinking...is it because I become more matured and want to settle down or maybe my family tie is getting stronger that I don't wish to part with my family so often? I don't really know the reason..but it seems to me that now... I prefer more stable lifestyle than being as advantageous like I used to me....maybe that's life...as we get older...we learn to see things from another angle that we thought we will never want to go into previously...

So posting that to that job opening question...if you were me...which job will you choose?
